The Work
We are offering a unique opportunity for a self-motivated Combat System Design Engineer (CSDE) who is looking for an approximate 2-year international assignment based in Nagasaki, Japan (Feb2026 thru Jan 2028). Nagasaki is a charming port city on Kyushu Island in Japan, known for its historical significance as a major trading port during the Edo period.
As the Combat System Design Engineer – Nagasaki (CSDE-N), you will be LM’s primary interface to the local shipbuilder Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) as they start construction on the first ship of the Aegis System Equipped Vessels (ASEV) program. You will oversee the day-to-day Production/Industrial and Technical direction of the installation and ship test schedule, combat system engineering and technical support of the Aegis Combat System (ACS) provided by US Ship Integration and Test (SI&T) personnel.
Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Coordinate with MDA Site Lead and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Test Lead on day to day planning and operations.
• Work with host-country Navy, Integrated Test Team (ITT), shipbuilder and the LM Moorestown Program Manager (PM), Technical Director (TD), and Computer Program (CP) development, and Test Planning teams to adjust the installation and test schedules around both ship readiness as well as CP development and readiness.
• Work with other USN organizations/PARMs to monitor and report equipment installation as well as ensuring all pre-requisites are met prior to fly away support visits.
• Work with resident ITT and visiting engineers to compile and publish a weekly report detailing installation and test status and outstanding issues and concerns.
• Work with CSDE-Yokohama (CSDE-Y) supporting ASEV ship #2 to collaborate and incorporate production lessons learned.
We offer flexibility to start this position remotely. Candidate will need to travel to Moorestown, NJ for ASEV Training before deploying on your 2-year assignment to Nagasaki, Japan.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in related discipline, with specialized leadership training, and/or demonstrated capability through previous experience and education to perform assigned leadership duties and responsibilities
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience
• Minimum of 8 years working with Naval Combat Systems
• This is an international assignment and ability to move overseas is required
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance at the SECRET level. U.S. Citizenship required
Desired Skills:
• Prior experience as an expatriate
• Master’s degree from an accredited college in related discipline
• Prior experience leading matrixed teams, including international teams and foreign nationals
• Prior experience working with MDA/PEO IWS4
• Familiarity with AEGIS Combat System, Foreign Military Sales (FMS), Military Specifications and Standards and other ship system designs
• Familiarity with SPY-7 or Solid State Radar Systems
• Familiarity with FMS COMSSIC materials
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, leadership skills; ability to determine strengths and needs of all subordinates and assign work to suit
• Able to work with minimal direction while supporting international program schedule
• Possess a strong process focus with the ability to recognize opportunities for improvement and drive required changes

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: Non- standard 40 hour work week as assigned by leader
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $104,500 - $184,115. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
