The primary role for this candidate will be the technical lead for the Class 3 & Production Processing Equipment (PPE) Ground Support Equipment for our Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Program. The individual will report through the Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) Department.
In this role, the engineer will be responsible for the design, development and delivery of Class 3 & PPE equipment that interfaces with the Class 1, Class 2, SME & STE equipment as well as the facility buildings. In addition, the candidate will be the primary representative for the Class 3 equipment and will be required to interface with teams that support both the Internal & External Customers. The candidate is responsible for ensuring that the Class 3 projects are completed with the proper technical pedigree as well as ensuring the teams in the field, at the Customer facilities, are supported to achieve project and program success. The candidate will be expected to support all proposal efforts for Class 3.
The individual will have the opportunity to work with direct leadership, FBM technical leadership, suppliers, the field teams at the Customer facilities, the External Customers to name a few.
The candidate will collaborate with fellow FBM Hardware Leads and support teams to ensure requirements are adhered to and projects are successful. In addition, the individual will have the opportunity to identify efficiencies and drive process and communication improvements to advance the FBM program in alignment with the Digital Transformation Initiatives.
After entering this position and aligning with the initial FBM CPE requirements, the candidate work with the FBM Mechanical Subsystem Responsible Systems Engineer (RSE) and FBM Chief Engineers office on the certification process to become the FBM Class 3/PPE (CPE).
Travel will be required to support vendor visits, Customer facility visits or training.
The candidate may be called on to support tasks outside of Class 3/PPE as required for FBM MGSE program success.
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience with the entire project life cycle (Proposal – Award – Design – Delivery – Sustainment)
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field
- Knowledgeable of the Engineering design tools (CREO, CAD, EPDM, FEA, AutoCAD, etc)
- Experience with Engineering Concepts (Design, Analysis, loads, etc)
- This position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Desire and ability to own technical decisions.
- The ability to research and guide a team to identify the issues and determine a solution path forward.
- Knowledge of Program, Government and industry standards and processes and ability to interpret them.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
- Candidate must have the ability to work in an environment with evolving requirements and dynamic schedules.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of FBM program and/or MGSE
- Project Management experience (Cost, schedule, contracts, proposal, requirements, etc)
- Manufacturing knowledge or experience (welding, machining, materials, etc)
- Ability to mentor Junior Engineers.
- Experience working with procurement & outside suppliers
- Ability to collaborate effectively with adjacent fields (systems engineering, stress analysis, configuration management, sourcing, project management, finance, planning, etc)
- Experience implementing innovative solutions that have significantly improved team efficiency, product quality, or customer satisfaction.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
