We are looking for a hands-on maker who can turn fuzzy concepts into consumer grade, small batch products quickly. You will design, model, fabricate, finish, and assemble low quantity parts, products, and hardware enclosures that look and feel like finished products. You might come from industrial design, model making, machining/CNC, fabrication, or be an engineer with strong shop skills. Learning new toolsets and skills on the job is part of the role.
What you’ll do:
• Integrate into an Agile team to develop consumer product and hardware prototypes.
• Design and build consumer grade products that are robust, attractive, and easy to assemble.
• Fabricate parts via CNC milling, turning, and 3D printing (SLS, SLA, FDM)
• Create molded components using injection molding or urethane casting techniques
• Deliver production like finishes – Powder coating, cerakote, anodizing, paint & polish
• Own fit and finish including threaded inserts, snap fits, gaskets, fasteners, cable routing, thin wall enclosures, led light pipes, vents.
Basic Qualifications:
• Experience with one of the following 3d CAD systems: Inventor, Fusion 360, Solidworks, Creo, Onshape, or Freecad
• Experience with one of the following plastic component manufacturing methods: 3d printing (SLA, FDM, or SLS), Injection molding, urethane casting, silicone over molding, thermoforming
• Experience with on of the following manufacturing methods: CNC machining, lathe turning, manual machining, laser cutting and engraving, waterjet, plasma cutting, sheet metal bending and forming,
Desired Skills:
• Shop Competency: Safe and efficient operation of shop tools including drill presses, band saws, chop saws, sanders, taps and dies, heat set inserts, arbor press, hand tools, etc.
• Basic PCB assembly handling and integration: standoffs, shielding, thermal pads/heatsinks/heat pipes
• Sheet metal design and fabrication: K-Factor, bend reliefs, embosses and offsets, bending brake operation
• Branding and Graphics: Direct-to-object printing, brand ideation, color theory, typography, graphics software
• Surface Prep & Finishing: Sanding, priming, masking, coating selection and application.
• Aesthetic, consumer quality build standard: you can make prototypes look and feel ready for production with an eye for aesthetic consumer grade design.
• Project Scope Definition: Ability to define product scope from ambiguous or limited requirements
• Agile Principles: Experience applying Agile principles to consumer product development
• Fast Iteration Mindset: plan – build – iterate
• CNC Programming and Operation: 3 and 4 axis milling and basic turning
• 3D Printer Setup and Operation: FDM, SLA, and SLS
Experience in one or more of the following will set you apart:
• Industrial Design Experience: Design for manufacturability, design for assembly, CMF (Color Material Finish) selection, ribs/bosses, part splits, snap fits., user interface design.
• Urethane Casting and Injection Molding expertise: Silicone mold design & fabrication, venting, shrinking, post cure
• Injection molding design experience: mold design, draft angles, gates, ejectors
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $85,500 - $150,765. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
