Job Responsibilities

Job ID: 702304BR Date posted: Aug. 20, 2025
Description:What if your work could help prevent conflict... by making our capabilities so advanced, no one dares to challenge them?

We are the Aero Artificial Intelligence team at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics - building and deploying trusted AI that empowers decision-makers, strengthens deterrence, and advances global stability.

Our work spans the full mission lifecycle, from intelligent systems onboard next-generation aircraft, to AI-enabled tools that support mission planning, engineering optimization, advanced manufacturing, and long-term sustainment.

This is AI that works alongside people, not in place of them. It’s developed with rigor, deployed responsibly, and aligned with Lockheed Martin’s commitment to ethics, accountability, and national purpose.

As the AI Operations Manager, you will architect and lead the internal MLOps platform that underpins every AI initiative at Aeronautics. This role ensures AI capabilities can scale securely, efficiently, and with full compliance by managing tools, environments, and governance processes across the development lifecycle. You'll lead a multidisciplinary technical team while serving as the key integrator across cybersecurity, infrastructure, and enterprise AI strategies.

Key Responsibilities Include:

* Define and evolve the AI development platform spanning on-premise, hybrid, and secure cloud environments.

* Standardize and maintain tools for CI/CD, model tracking, versioning, deployment, and rollback.

* Lead governance processes across code quality, readiness reviews, documentation, and model lifecycle tracking.

*Manage intake coordination, ensuring all technical and compliance prerequisites are met before work begins.

* Align platform capabilities with enterprise policies on data security, model auditing, and digital assurance.

* Collaborate with Cybersecurity and IT teams to ensure DevSecOps principles are embedded across the stack.

* Oversee performance monitoring and lifecycle management of AI models, including retraining and deprecation.

* Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of MLOps engineers, tooling specialists, and platform analysts.

* Serve as primary liaison to LM’s corporate AI Factory, ensuring alignment and interoperability with enterprise platforms.

* Continuously evaluate new tools and methods to future-proof the AI ecosystem and enhance developer velocity.

* Drive adoption and change management as new tools and processes are introduced.

* Ensure stakeholder satisfaction and seamless integration with internal engineering and mission teams.

* Define and track platform KPIs, including uptime, deployment speed, and user satisfaction.
Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field

* Experience (typically 7+ years) supporting or leading software platform operations, DevOps, or MLOps efforts

* Demonstrated leadership (typically 3+ years) directly managing technical teams (DevOps, platform engineering, or AI/ML infrastructure)

* Demonstrated experience implementing governance or compliance processes in secure or regulated environments

* Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, model versioning, and deployment tooling
Desired Skills:
* Experience coordinating across IT, cybersecurity, and enterprise architecture functions

* Strong technical documentation and process development skills

* Working knowledge of cybersecurity controls and DevSecOps practices

* DoD RMF Training / STIG Compliance

* Certified ScrumMaster or Agile PM credential

* Experience with DoD networks and secure enclaves

* Familiarity with AI model management frameworks (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow)

* Knowledge of containerization, orchestration, and HPC environments

* Experience integrating commercial and open-source AI platforms

* Strong stakeholder engagement and service delivery mindset

* Financial acumen to manage platform budgets and ROI
