Description:
You will be the Senior Manager of External Communications for the Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) team. Our team is responsible for shaping and executing integrated external communications strategies that advance MFC's reputation, support enterprise priorities, and drive strategic growth. As the Senior Manager of External Communications, you play a pivotal role in advancing MFC’s reputation, supporting enterprise priorities, and driving strategic growth in close partnership with Strategy & Business Development, and line of business teams.
This position leads the strategy and execution of MFC’s media relations, social and digital content, marketing and advertising strategy, trade shows, as well as protocol and customer engagements. The role also supports executive communications for MFC’s Strategy and Business Development team, working across the enterprise to elevate leadership visibility and business priorities.
What You Will Be Doing
As the Senior Manager of External Communications, you will be responsible for leading a high-performing team and developing strategies that enhance MFC's reputation and drive global awareness. Your responsibilities will include:
• Lead and inspire a high-performing team across media relations, social and digital media, marketing, trade shows, and protocol and executive-level customer engagements.
• Develop and implement integrated external communications strategies that enhance MFC’s reputation, align with business objectives, and drive global awareness.
• Serve as the communications partner for MFC’s Strategy and Business Development team, crafting messaging and campaigns to support pursuits, partnerships, and growth.
• Collaborate closely with program communications partners to ensure alignment on media relations, social media campaigns, and external storytelling that supports business and program priorities.
• Drive proactive media outreach and develop thought leadership opportunities for executives, positioning MFC as a trusted industry leader.
• Oversee the development and execution of marketing and advertising strategy, including messaging, creative alignment, and audience targeting across key customer and stakeholder groups.
• Oversee the planning and execution of flagship trade shows, executive engagements, and protocol events that support customer trust and mission success.
• Lead issues and crisis communications planning and response; act as a trusted counselor to senior leaders and collaborate with legal, government affairs, and enterprise partners.
• Assess and report performance of communications efforts through data-driven insights, continuously optimizing for reach, impact, and alignment with strategy.
• Cultivate a collaborative, innovative, and accountable team culture that encourages growth, development, and operational excellence.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field.
• Proven ability to lead integrated communications teams and enterprise-scale initiatives.
• Demonstrated excellence in executive communications, messaging, and media engagement.
• Strong understanding of contemporary media environments, including digital and social trends.
• Experience supporting business development, enterprise strategy, or global growth campaigns.
• Track record in managing complex external communications, including crisis and issues management.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
• Collaborative and proactive leadership style with strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.
• Ability to travel to a Major LM Site, as needed
• Must be US Citizen - This position will require travel to an LM facility that requires special access.
Desired Skills:
• Experience in defense, aerospace, or other highly regulated industries.
• Familiarity with government/military protocol and international customer engagement.
• Background in journalism or direct experience working with media and trade press.
• Data-driven approach to campaign development, measurement, and storytelling.
• Demonstrated success in high-stakes communications, such as crisis response or executive visibility.
• Deep understanding of digital communications ecosystems, including real-time engagement and digital newsroom strategy.

Ability to Work Remotely: Full-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work remotely full time at a location other than a Lockheed Martin designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a Lockheed Martin office for periodic meetings.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California and New York is $143,600 - $248,975. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. This position is incentive plan eligible.
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $124,900 - $220,225. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
