Are you a natural storyteller? Do you want to tell stories that are “out of this world”? We’re looking for a motivated communications professional to join the Business & Brand communications team at Lockheed Martin Space.

This opportunity is to join Lockheed Martin on its creative, fast-paced Space Communications team. This position will be responsible for leading and executing external communication strategies and tactics for the company’s national security space-focused portfolio at the company’s Space division. This individual is a strategic communicator who will lead integrated, external-facing communications efforts which align with business objectives, advise subject matter experts on dynamic messaging, support original campaigns, manage media relations activities, pursue thought leadership initiatives, measure and report results and manage crises as needed.

Reporting to the senior manager of communications, the successful candidate will work with business leaders to understand business objectives and creatively craft communications strategies to help achieve those goals.




In this role will offer you the following daily key responsibilities:



• Create and execute communications plans to support the line of business and products/capabilities within.
• Managing the media relations effort for the line of business, preparing spokespeople for interviews, drafting background materials and more, in support of thought leadership.
• Build and maintain relationships with reporters and pitch story ideas to key journalists who cover technology and portfolio programs.
• Collaborate with internal business partners, government relations and communications colleagues to create integrated, externally facing plans focused on media relations/stakeholder engagements, compelling content for social/digital channels and other communications workstreams to drive business outcomes.
• Support cross-company campaigns.
• Serve as an internal reporter by investigating, sourcing, developing and packaging stories for target audiences.
• Build and maintain relationships with U.S. government public affairs officers and communications industry partners.
• Provide insightful, informed and strategic communications counsel to business leaders.
• Manage multiple workstreams and projects simultaneously, including drafting scripts, video projects, image and graphic creation, event support, employee-facing communications, etc.

Although this position does support some teleworking; the preferred candidate will be located near our Lockheed Martin Space facility in Denver, Colorado , and be expected to work in the office as needed and as appropriate.
Basic Qualifications:
To be effective, you will need to possess these basic qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in one of the following disciplines: PR, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English or equivalent experience/combined education, with professional experience and specialized training commensurate with assignment.
• 8+ years relevant experience in corporate communications, PR and/or marketing communications.
• Demonstrated excellent writing and editing skills, including the use of AP Style.
• Demonstrated excellent project management skills.
• Previous professional experience creating and implementing communications plans.
• Ability to build both strategic and tactical plans that drive perceptions, deliver key messages and get results.
• Familiarity with a wide variety of communication channels, techniques and emerging technologies, with a natural curiosity that leads to continuous improvement.
• You will need to be a US Citizen, and be able to obtain and maintain a US DoD TOP SECRET clearance, to support this government contract, as well as successfully pass a drug and background check, in order to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

• Master's Degree in one of the following disciplines: PR, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English or equivalent experience/combined education, with professional experience and specialized training commensurate with assignment.
• Prior public affairs experience and/or familiarity with DoD public affairs
• Proven ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships
• Strong communications planning and project management experience
• Media relations experience and/or journalist experience
• Ability to use metrics and analysis tools/communications measurement techniques; measure outcomes to influence strategic decisions, identify lessons learned and inform direction
• Comfort working as part of a matrixed team
• Crisis communications experience
• Quick study with an attention to detail and a sense of urgency
• Excellent prioritization and time management skills
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Familiarity with contemporary communications and industry trends, including social media listening and rapid response techniques
• Exceptional writing, editing and oral communication skills geared toward external audiences with the ability to convey highly complex information in clear, compelling ways
• Proficient in AP style
• Able to work on many projects simultaneously and with close attention to detail
• Motivated self-starter who performs without appreciable direction and works effectively under competing priorities and tight deadlines with little direction or oversight
• Results-driven with an ability to develop and execute communications strategies to achieve desired outcomes
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $90,200 - $159,045. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
