Description:What does this role look like?
The Systems Engineering (SE) Director for Global Security directs the systems engineering of the global security space systems which enable defense & intelligence missions. These missions range from anti-surface warfare, missile defense, & space control, to global awareness & strategic watch, to global weather & space exploration, to farming, mobile connectivity, & resource monitoring. The global security portfolio consists of the satellites, satellite constellations, buses, bus architectures & interfaces, payloads, mission & communications systems, & interfaces with other systems & platforms, which provide the global security capabilities necessary to perform these missions. In addition to directing the SE of global security systems, the Global Security SE Director directs the potential integration of these systems with those of other defense, intelligence, civil, & commercial systems & platforms such as aircraft, ships, weapons, satellites, cloud infrastructures, & data repositories.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Directs the planning & execution of systems engineering support for activities developing global security space systems for defense, intelligence, civil, & commercial missions. These activities include:
o Programs, capture campaigns, proposals, R&D projects, studies, white papers, briefings, roadmaps, strategies, concepts, prototypes, demonstrations, etc.
o Chief among these is ensuring the successful execution of systems engineering, integration, & test efforts across the product lifecycle, including full-production programs.
• Provides the LoBs, S&BD, Ignite, & Product Centers of Space, as well as the other business areas of LM, with focused support in the integration & engineering of global security space systems for their respective activities.
• Coordinates & collaborates closely with both the Communication & Mission Systems Integration & Engineering Directors to ensure the integration of mission capabilities from communication & mission systems with those of global security space systems.
• Engages & coordinates with the Systems Engineering Directors for major Space activities such as OPIR, Orion, FBM, NGI, Remote Sensing, etc. to identify & drive opportunities for the integration of their space & missile systems with global security space systems.
• Engages & coordinates closely with other engineering disciplines throughout the full systems lifecycle to ensure end-to-end closure.
• Engages, coordinates, & collaborates with partners from other LM business areas, corporate, & industry to provide support & drive integration of global security space systems with other defense, intelligence, civil, & commercial systems & platforms such as aircraft, ships, satellites, weapons, cloud infrastructures, & data repositories.
• Establishes & implements best practices for the systems engineering of global security & space systems, consistent with the mission category & risk profile.
• Directs the application of systems engineering standards, processes, & procedures for global security space systems.
• Directs efforts toward continuous improvement, including the identification & employment of appropriate performance metrics & indicators, & the application of lessons-learned from internally as well as from other Space, LM, & industry activities.
• Models & inspires self-initiated work in a team environment with strong leadership skills.
• Supports & collaborates with the Enterprise Systems Engineering Director & Systems Integration, Architecture, & Analysis Director on all aspects of systems engineering for the Space business area, including:
o Definition, coordination, & advocacy of systems engineering career paths, training, & development opportunities.
o Development & maintenance of systems engineering standards, processes, & procedures.
o Assessment, selection, & deployment of systems engineering tools.
Basic Qualifications:
To be effective, you will need to possess these basic qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education.
• Demonstrated full spectrum leader with experience successfully leading large, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams in the development of global security space systems.
• Four years of experience leading the planning and execution of systems engineering for space systems.
• Four years of experience performing systems engineering for space systems.
• Four years of experience as a functional manager.
• Understanding of defense, intelligence, civil, & commercial missions.
• You will need to be a US Citizen, and must currently possess, and are able to maintain, a TS/SCI clearance, to support this government contract, as well as successfully pass a drug and background check, in order to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Desired Skills:
To be effective, ideally, you should also have:
• Master’s degree in engineering.
• Demonstrated full spectrum leader with experience successfully leading large, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams through the systems engineering lifecycle for global security space systems.
• Demonstrated Full Spectrum and Strategic Leader who can build high performing teams through empowerment and scaling the organization.
• Experience conceptualizing and engineering solutions which meet mission needs with disaggregated capabilities across constellations of smaller, lower-cost, satellites.
• Experience with LM satellite buses.
• Experience with creating and executing strategic initiatives.
• Exceptional communication skills, with proven ability to represent LM to customers, employees, and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships across functions, programs, and business areas.
• Recognized as an authority in systems thinking techniques with the demonstrated ability to apply them to a wide range of sophisticated problems and train others in their application.
• Exercises excellent written and oral communication skills, with extensive experience engaging with customers and relationship management.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills – works effectively within the organization and conveys decisions, direction, results, and conclusions in a manner meaningful to diverse audiences.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $180,000 - $287,500. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
